The flying car prototype completed a test flight between two airports in Slovakia. The unusual task was performed for the first time on Monday (28) and lasted 35 minutes.

Called AirCar, the vehicle is equipped with a BMW engine and runs on gasoline. It is capable of traveling up to 1,000 kilometers and reaching 2,500 meters in height. It only takes 15 seconds for the convertible to transform into an aircraft.

Reached a speed of 170km/h

In the air, the machine reached a speed of 170km/h. The prototype is capable of carrying two people, with a weight limit of 200 kg. The test was carried out between Nitra and Bratislava airports because the hybrid is not yet able to take off and land vertically and requires a suitable runway.

The model was created by Stefan Klein, who has been working on the dream of making flying cars a reality for decades. Through the company Klein Vision, he has been working on the development of the AirCar since 2017. According to the company, the project is already protected by 12 patents and cost approximately 1.7 million Euros.

Aircraft Orders

Anton Rajac, the company’s consultant and investor, told the BBC that if the company could attract even a small percentage of global airline or taxi sales, it would be “hugely successful”.

— There are about 40,000 aircraft orders just in the United States. And if we convert 5% of that, an exchange of the aircraft for the flying car, we would have a huge market – he pointed out.
